Video Rants
‘Web Rant’ #9: One Smelly Fish!!!
(10/4/10)
Feeling a bit intrigued after seeing the trailer — and hearing all the buzz surrounding it, I went to see the new film Catfish…and left feeling a bit angry for being played like a sucker. Watch to see why…
‘WEB RANT’ #8: More Thoughts on Mel Gibson
(7/28/10)
A couple of weeks ago, I posted some thoughts regarding Mel Gibson and the troubles he has been having as of late. Since then, the coverage has grown much worse, with more crude audiotapes being leaked as well as photographs of a bruised Oksana Grigorieva. I cannot help but feel a bit repulsed over the way in which the media has chosen to cover this upsetting story — and the way most of the public seems to be eating all of this up without knowing all of the facts. Let’s not rush to condemn here, people. Here are some of my thoughts I’d like to share with you in this latest installment of my ‘Video Web Rant.’
‘WEB RANT’ #7: The Terrible “Grown Ups” Movie
(7/5/10)
Looking to get a few laughs, I went to see the new comedy Grown-Ups last week. What a terrible mistake this turned out to be. I couldn’t help but voice my frustrations in video-format here in my latest Web Rant. Enjoy!
‘WEB RANT’ #6: HONORING THE GREAT DENNIS HOPPER
(5/31/10)
This past Saturday, legendary actor Dennis Hopper passed away at the age of 74 due to complications from prostate cancer. His illustrious up-and-down career spanned over 5 decades, lending to motion pictures some of the screen’s most memorable performances. I was a tremendous fan of his work as an actor and a filmmaker and wanted to dedicate this ‘Web Rant’ in his honor, as he will most surely be missed.
‘WEB RANT’ #5: BAD MOVIES ADAPTED FROM SHIT TV
(5/21/10)
A few days ago I posted a short, silly list of my ‘movie pet peeves.’ Sadly, I neglected to put in the category of those movies which are based on lousy television shows. This does not include all of them, of course (perhaps why I omitted it on my list), but the majority of them. In the next few weeks, we are privileged to get two of them: “Sex and the City 2” (can you honestly stand to look at Sarah Jessica Parker for more than a minute? To use a line from a dear family member…it’s like looking at the sun) and “The A-Team” — both trailers look deplorable. Wonder what that means about the movies themselves….hmmm…. I think I will go for a more positive ‘Web Rant’ next week. Go for the “Glass Half Full Mentality” for once….enjoy!
‘WEB RANT’ #4: DEFENDING “THE SACRED LIST”
(5/13/10)
My recent posting of “Top 10 Worst Best Picture Oscar Winners” created quite a stir on the ListVerse.com website with over 350+ comments in under 24 hours. Some were quite insightful, some disagreed in respectable fashion, while others were just plain mean. Here, I support my Almighty List, scoff at a few commenters, and yes, apologize for one slight boo-boo.
‘WEB RANT’ #3: BAMBI vs. GODZILLA
(5/4/10)
In his weekly video ‘Web Rant,’ Peter Eramo wonders if it’s really necessary to see the next big blockbuster movie playing at your local multiplex — on 6 separate screens — while the smaller, independent films have to claw and fight for tiny distribution. Eramo uses the old 1969 animated short “Bambi vs. Godzilla” as his analogy to Hollywood’s distribution dilemma…and demands more variety in the process!
WEB RANT #2: ON DeNIRO, WALKEN, NICHOLSON
(4/27/10)
In 2007,Francis Ford Coppola took a bit of heat for derogatory comments made to GQ magazine regarding Robert DeNiro, Jack Nicholson, and Al Pacino. Here, Magic Lantern Film blogger Peter Eramo, Jr. sides with the Oscar-winning director and asks: where has the craft of acting gone — and who are our hardest working actors on screen today?
PETER ERAMO’S WEB RANT ON (HIS) WOODY
(4/20/10)
Magic Lantern Film’s first video web rant by Peter Eramo, Jr. — on the legendary filmmaker, Woody Allen. More specifically, focusing on the output over the past decade from the director.
