Results: Forrest vs. Shawshank Poll!!!

Boy, this one was a terribly close one. I am surprised by how tight this race actually was. Why I chose to conduct this particular poll? Again, me and my (now) brother-in-law have been having this friendly debate over the past few years. He swears by “Gump,” which I think is a fine film, but does not compare to Darabont’s ”Shawshank” (if I do say so myself). I told him I would put it to the test and have readers of this blog vote for the film they like more. And the voters have spoken!

By one single vote, The Shawshank Redemption eked by Forrest Gump for the win!!!

I need your help. So, 1994 was a pretty strong year for film, right? Quiz Show, Hoop Dreams, Nobody’s Fool, The Kingdom, Red, Natural Born Killers, Pulp Fiction, The Professional, were just a few of the elite released that year. Two other films that stood out from the crowd were Frank Darabont’s The Shawshank Redemption and Forrest Gump, directed by Robert Zemeckis. One was nominated for 7 Academy Awards while the other took home six Oscars, including the coveted “Best Picture” award.

So I have been having this ongoing debate with a certain someone about which is the “better” film. Of course they are two completely different types of movies & of course many would agree that they are both excellent films, but I want to know which film people like more. This is where YOU come in. The poll is very simple and you only have two choices here — I’d like for you to vote for which film you like more. It’s that simple.

Fan Poll: What’s Your Favorite Superhero Movie?

“Iron Man 2” was released early this month and has not given up the top spot at the box-office just yet. A good action-packed superhero movie is almost a surefire box-office smash usually results in a sequel or two to follow. With the widely anticipated Green Hornet movie coming out later this year and others in post-production, I wanted to see what your favorite superhero movie is. Results from the Mafia War!

I am hoping that with time and more content and yes, better design/layout of this site (still in the works) – that more traffic will come and more people will become regular readers of Magic Lantern Film. Right now, 30 people cast their votes in last week’s movie poll which posed the question: which is the better gangster film: “The Godfather” or “Goodfellas.” Thirty votes is somewhat respectable, but again, I’d like to see much more in the weeks and months ahead. Especially when I see the site getting over 150+  hits a day this past week. Anyway, thank you to all who participated and made their choice!!! Here are the results:

The Godfather vs. Goodfellas — Cast Your Vote!

No doubt there have been some brilliant gangster films made over the years. “Casino,” “Miller’s Crossing,” “White Heat,” “Scarface,” “Donnie Brasco“…and I could go on and on. For this week’s “Movie Poll” I could have easily come up with 10 truly awesome gangster flicks for you to pick from. But I’m not going to do that. What’s the point? I’m just going to get right down to the two films it always comes down to anyway, and if you think otherwise, well, then….maybe you better come take a ride…you know what I mean?!

This has always been a source of great debate with me and my film buddies. The question? Which is the better gangster movie: Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather” (1972) or Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas” (1990)? I have my own very strong opinions on the matter, but for now, I want to see what you think.

So this week is real easy — you get two choices and two choices only…if you’ve never seen them — shame on you. If you like another film better, simply pick which film you enjoy more. Fuhgeddaboudit…it’s that easy.

Peter Eramo Asks: What Movie are You MOST Excited to see This Year?

With “Iron Man 2” opening on May 7th, the 2010 Summer Blockbuster Season is officially under way. However, with “Clash of the Titans” already released, you may argue the fact that the Season has already begun. Be that as it may, there are a number of movies coming out this year with high box-office expectations…not unlike any other year in Hollywood. The litany of sequels, big-budget action films, and remakes are upon us…with a few films coming out by the more “seasoned” directors like David Fincher and the Coen Brothers for good measure.

I want to know what movie YOU are most looking forward to this year. Yeah, I know there’s plenty of them to choose from, but you only get one choice.
